| x 01.10.2007: Victory for women / Men lost after overtime |
Our women's team opened its season with a 75 - 61 victory over Les Espérants Wasserbillig. The game showed a lot of intensity and speed in the early stage. During 35 minutes, both teams alternated several times the lead. In the last 5 minutes, our girls acted cleverer and could march off to set the final score.
Our men's team had a lot of problems to score from outside during the first minutes of its game against Basket Esch. A solid defense during the first quarter could reduce the damage to a 6 – 15 lost after 10 minutes. Our team lost more ground during the first minutes of the second quarter, allowing Esch to march off with 18 points. Our team then gained confidence during the last 5 minutes of the second stage to set the score to 30 – 40 at halftime. After the break, our guys had the better start and could score a 8 – 0 run in the first minute, forcing Esch to use their first timeout. Esch reacted and could set the advantage again to 10 points before our team fought back and first took the lead 5 minutes before the end of the game. Our team could defend this advantage till 20 seconds before the end before Esch equalized the score at 78 – 78. In overtime, our team lost confidence, allowing Esch to march off with a 1 – 12 run to set the final score at 79 – 90. |

| x 05.06.2007: Rüdiger Wichote leaves club |
BBC Gréngewald Hostert has to look for a new coach for its men's and women's team. The German Rüdiger Wichote, who realized the promotion to National II with the men's team, regrets that he has to leave the club due to individual reasons after only one season.
The club wants to thank Mr Wichote very much for the extremely successful work over the last season. |

| x 22.04.2007: Men’s team misses N3 champions title / Women loose |
After a strong series of 9 victories, our men's team finishes its playoff round with a defeat against Southside Péiteng. Due to the direct point comparison, Southside Péiteng overtook our team in the table and hereby secures the N3 championship title. After our defeat in the final of the FLBB Cup, our team finished the season without any title but reached the promotion back into the N2 division, which was clearly the most important aim before the season.
Again, our team had problems finding its rhythm at the beginning of the game, allowing Southside to march off with 0 – 8. Our team first took the lead at 16 – 15, but could not avoid a 12 points lead for Péiteng at half time. After the break, our team tried to react but a lot of turnovers didn’t allow our guys to regain control over the game. In the last minutes, our team managed to reduce the difference but was not able to avoid a 60 – 74 defeat in its last game.
Our girls had to face Etzella Ettelbruck, the unbeaten leader of the DL maintain playoff group. Our ladies had a lot of problems resisting the pressure of Etzella during the first minutes, allowing them to march of with 0 – 16. Good shooting allowed Etzella to win the first quarter with 8 – 37. During the second quarter, Etzella limited its efforts to keeping the result which allowed our girls to participate in the game. At the end, our women’s team had to accept a 56 – 98 defeat in its last season game. |
| |
| x 14.04.2007: Men’s team needs overtime / Women win |
Our men’s team won its eighth consecutive game in the actual playoff round in overtime against the team from Avenir Berbourg. Our men acted very ponderously and listlessly during the first half to loose this one with 7 points. The team reacted after the break which allowed equalizing the score. From that moment the game stayed close till the last seconds where Berbourg missed the last shot to decide the game and to avoid overtime. In overtime, our team acted hardened, allowing Berbourg just a single basket to win this stage 9 – 2. Final score: 79 – 72.
Our women team could win their game against Avenir Berbourg and this without the help of American player Clare Barnard. Our girls had the better start with a 6 – 0 run during the first seconds. Our ladies could keep the rebound domination of Berbourg under control and a lot of easy fast breaks allowed them to control the game till the end. Final score: 59 – 50.
However, this victory changes nothing in the fact that our ladies have to start next season again in the National II division. After the defeat against BC Mess of last weekend, there are no more theoretical chances that our girls can overtake BC Mess in the table to secure a place for the promotion to the DL division. |
| |
| x 02.04.2007: Mission completed: Men’s team promotes to N2 |
It was the most important expressed aim of this season, the direct reclimb to the National II division for the men’s team. Three game days before the end of the playoff round, a seventh consecutive victory was enough to secure the promotion back to N2. This success, which was at the end clearer than expected, earns respect, as the team explained its purpose at the beginning of the season to play without the help of a foreign player.
The team had to face Black Frogs Schieren who still had a theoretical chance for the promotion before the game. But the counter weir fell out clearly more weakly than expected. Right from the beginning, our team showed the wills to pull a finish line under this season. Our team took a 13 – 22 lead into the second quarter to finish the first half with 19 – 38. During the first minutes of the second half, our team limited itself to control the game. Schieren was not able to take profit out of situation and so our team used the last minutes to set the final score to 51 – 80.
In the last 3 remaining games, our team will now try to defend its leader position in the table so that it can finish the season with the N3 championship title. |
| |
| x 31.03.2007: Men and women with expected victories |
On the sixth game day of their actual playoff round, both men and women could celebrate another home victory.
Our ladies had to face Avanti Mondorf who had to deplore some missing players. Our girls dominated the game right from the beginning. Mondorf had no recipe against the domination in the paint of American player Clare Barnard who added 34 points to this victory. Our team took a 19 – 10 lead into the second quarter and ended the first half with a 43 – 21 lead. In the second half, our team did not more then necessary to develop the lead. Especially in defense, our team gave its opponent too much space so that they could keep the damage in borders. Final score: 82 – 47.
It was again a week performance at the beginning of the match from our men’s team, allowing Telstar Hesperange to open the game with a 0 – 9 run. Our team increased the intensity and reduced the disadvantage step by step to end the first quarter 13 – 15. Against a compact zone defense from Telstar, our players found back their shooting touch from the three point land (11 three point shots in this game) in the second quarter to end this one with a 20 – 15 advantage. After the break, our team slowly took control over the game and entered the final quarter with a 10 points lead. Telstar could once again reduce this lead to 4 points three minutes before the end, but our team stayed concentrated and could finally win this game 75 – 67. Our team needs now a single victory out of 4 remaining games to achieve the promotion to National II. This could happen already tomorrow night where our men will visit Black Frogs Schieren. |

| x 24.03.2007: Cup triumph was not granted to men’s team |
It could have been the first title for our men’s team for this season. But the boys around Coach Wichote tripped over Southside Péiteng in the final of the FLBB Cup.
In front of a large gathering of fans from both clubs, it was Péiteng that had the better start. While our team was acting very nervously during the first minutes, Péiteng profited to open the game with a 0 – 8 run. After a first basket from the youngest player on the court, Lino Schaus, our team gained confidence and answered with a 7 – 0. From this moment, the game stayed tied for the rest of the first half. Youngster Christan Harr could use the last play to hit a buzzer and to create a 40 – 37 lead for our team at half time.
After the break, it was again Southside that had the much better start. Our team had severe problems to create it plays. Southside profited to gain easy ball possessions and to run a lot of fast breaks. In consequence, our starting five was outrebounded with 0 – 13. It turned out that our team could not recover any more from this shock, as Péiteng controlled the rest of the game in guidance. Our team could reach connection with 4 points in the last quarter; however, the force was not sufficient anymore enough to regain the lead. Many misfires from the free-throw line from our team helped Péiteng to stay in advance while they could make nearly all “stop the clock” free throws at the end. Finally, our team missed the chance to win the Cup FLBB for the third time in the clubs history with a 65 – 73 lost against Southside Péiteng.

| x 18.03.2007: Tremendous victory for men’s team / Women loose |
Finally we did it! After two defeats against Southside Péiteng in the regular Season, our men’s team could cause their first official defeat in theirs club history! After a tied first quarter, Gréngewald controlled the game during the second and could first march off with 11 points three minutes before half time. After the break, Southside came back and could reduce our lead to 4 points. But Gréngewald reacted well by pulling the advance to 21, the largest lead of the game with just 11 minutes remaining. The 5th foul of Southside’s American player Chris McSwain at the end of the third quarter let the Gréngewald supporters breathe deeply as each one counted on a blowout victory at that moment. But Péiteng came back during the final quarter, stronger then ever before during this game. Point by point they reduced the score while our team had nothing to oppose. During the last seconds, Marc Braun could make one of two free-throws which was finally enough to win this game by one point as Péiteng could just hit a two point buzzer at the end. This was a huge victory for our men’s team as it stays now the only unbeaten team in the playoff round for the promotion to National II with just 5 games remaining. Remember that the next showdown between both teams will already take place next Friday in the final of the FLBB Cup in the Coque at Kirchberg.
Our ladies lost their 5th game in the playoff round for the promotion to the DL division with 81 – 40 against the unbeaten leader Etzella Ettelbruck. After a first good quarter, which ended 22 – 22, our girls had problems to impose their play during the second as they could just score 3 points. The third quarter was again a tied one, but Etzella finally controlled the game during the last quarter allowing again just a couple points to our team.
|
| |
| x 11.03.2007: Women loose top-game/ Men win 4th consecutive game |
Our women’s team received BC Mess on the fourth game day of its playoff round. It was the top game as it was known that the winner could take a serious option to play in the DL next season.
BC Mess made the much better start as they worked well in the opening quarter to outscored our ladies with 0 – 9. An early timeout of Coach Wichote brought the change and our team came back to end the quarter 10 - 13. In the second quarter, our girls could even take a first time lead (14 – 13). However it was Mess who took the half time advantage as they stretched the lead to 6. It was again Mess who had the better start into the third quarter but Gréngewald showed a quick reaction. Due to an aggressive defence, our ladies could take again the lead and win this quarter 20 - 9. With a 5 points advantage, our women had the better cards at the beginning of the final quarter, but Mess profited from its experience to play in the DL and outscored our team 10 – 24. Our girls loose this important game 58 – 67 but still keep chances to take revenge in Mess to play in the DL next season. Stats.
Our men’s team had to face Mambra Mamer, the table last of the actual playoff round. It was again a low score game during the first half, as both teams had problems to score out of their plays. Our team could take a 24 – 19 lead into halftime. During the third quarter, our boys could set some accents but did not manage to march off. In the final quarter, our team profit from the fifth foul of the playmaker of Mamer to decide the game. Final score: 62 – 47.
|
| |
| x 04.03.2007: Double victory against Avenir Berbourg |
Both men and women could celebrate their third consecutive victory in their current playoff round. Our ladies dominated their game against Avenir Berbourg right from the tip-off and could already take an early 20 points lead into the second quarter. From then our team limited itself to control the game and to keep its opponent on distance. Final score: 65 – 89.
Our men had also to face Avenir Berbourg. During the first minutes, our team had serious problems to control the inside domination of Berbourg. But compared to the last games, our men found back their shooting touch from the three point line and could set a 15 points lead at halftime. In the third quarter, our team reduced the intensity, especially in defence, and allowed Berbourg to reduce our advantage to 4 points. With just the fourth quarter remaining, our team mounted a come back as they blew out Berbourg with a 16 points difference. At the end our team set another important step with this 79 – 99 victory over Avenir Berbourg. |
| |
| x 25.02.2007: Men and women raise on 2 – 0 |
After both away victories on Friday evening, our men’s and women’s team could also win their first home game this afternoon. Our ladies had to face Racing Luxembourg against who they lost the last game in the qualification round with 30 points. After a tied first half, our team led the game with 4 points at halftime. After the break, our team pushed the lead to 20 points due to an aggressive team defense and a lot of fast breaks. Racing had nothing more to oppose and finally our ladies took revenge with a 79 – 54 victory. Stats
In a low score game, our men’s team reached a second victory in the playoff round for the promotion to National II. Right from the beginning, both teams had problems to score out of their normal offensive sets. Our team could only carry a 24 - 23 lead into halftime. After the break, Gréngewald changed to an aggressive full court defense that disrupted the opponent's offensive flow but was not able to march off crucially. Nevertheless, our men could defend their lead till the end of the game and could beat Schieren 49 – 44. Stats |
| |
| x 24.02.2007: Men and women with victories for playoff opening |
On the first game day of the playoff round, both men and women start with an away victory. Our women’s team won its first playoff game against the team of Avanti Mondorf. In a tied game, our ladies assert themselves in the last minutes and reached a nine point victory under the impulse of the new foreigner player Clare Barnard-Schmitz who celebrated her first performance for this season. Final score: 61 – 70.
Our men’s team had the better start against Telstar Hesperange due to a disciplined offence and good shooting from the three point line. Our team led with 15 points after one quarter and then built on that lead to open the second. Finally the team defend a 13 points lead at halftime. After the break, Telstar reduced our advance to 4 points. A necessary timeout brought the change and our team could set the difference again to 10 points. In the fourth quarter, both teams kept close until the last minutes where Telstar started to scramble by scoring and then fouling our players to try to quickly regain possession. But solid shooting down the stretch sealed the first playoff win for Gréngewald. Final score: 72 - 77. Stats

| x 11.02.2007: Men force entry in the final of the FLBB Cup |
| Our men’s team could realize the entry in the final of the FLBB Cup with a 68 – 62 victory over Telstar Hesperange. In a much tied game none of both contractors could crucially march off during the first half. After the break, our team could profit from the fifth foul of Telstar’s American player John Wilson to reach an advance of 8 points. But Telstar acted cleverer than our team and brought itself back into the game. 70 seconds before the end, Telstar led by one point. But Norell, Heyman and Gabler showed nerves and transformed their free-throws as Telstar had problems to organize their last plays. After this lucky victory, our team will now face either Southside Péiteng or Red Miners Kayldall in the final of the FLBB Cup which will be played on March, 23rd in the Coque “Gymnase” at Kirchberg. |
| |
| x 05.02.2007: Playoff News - Away games for opening |
Today, the FLBB published the first two games in the playoff round. Our men's team will travel to Telstar Hesperange on Friday, 23rd February and will receive Black Frogs Schieren at home only two days later.
Our women's team will first visit the team of Avanti Mondorf and receive Racing Luxembourg at home on Sunday, 25th February. |
| |
| x 04.02.2007: Women with third consecutive defeat / Men won |
Our women's team lost its third consecutive game in the National II division against the leader Racing Luxembourg. The guests dominated the game right from the beginning and led already 18 – 4 after 6 minutes. Our team especially had problems to manage the rebound which allowed Racing to score a lot of easy baskets. Nevertheless our team could still save the last playoff place with a single point advance against the team of AS Soleuvre. Our team will now play against Etzella Ettelbruck, BC Mess (both DL division), Racing Luxembourg, Avanti Mondorf and Avenir Berbourg.
Our men’s team won its last game in the qualification round against BBC Kehlen 63 – 98. Due to an aggressive defense, our team determined the difference right from the beginning and could slowly march off. Our team finished on the second place in the National III Group A and has now to face Southside Péiteng, Telstar Hesperange, Black Frogs Schieren, Avenir Berbourg and BBC Mambra Mamer in the Playoffs where two teams will climb to National II at the end of the season. |
| |
| x 28.01.2007: Pitch-black weekend for ladies and men |
Due to the 1/4 finals in the “Coupe des Dames” last week, our women’s team had a double game day this weekend. Astonishingly, our girls lost both games. On Friday night, our team had to face Sparta Bertrange. On account of a very bad offensive performance, our girls could not score more than 43 points and lost the game 55 – 43. On Sunday afternoon, our ladies received Avenir Berbourg. Our girls lay most time of the game in disadvantage but could slowly reduce the difference at the end. However, one could not turn around the game and finally lost 50 - 56. With these both defeats one also gambled away the first table place in the National II division.
Our men’s team received Telstar Hesperange on Saturday night, our opponent in the semi-final of the FLBB Cup on February 10th. Our team convinced with a good defensive performance, but had problems to score from outside. Nevertheless, our men finally managed to march off with 15 points during the 3rd quarter. Each one who counted on a victory of the home team was informed of a better, ass Telstar reduced the difference step by step and could equalize the score during the last minute of the game. The American player of Telstar John Wilson could even take the lead for his colors 18 seconds before the end. A last offensive play of our team could not be used to take the game to overtime and so our men lost their third game in the National III division 52 – 54. |

| x 14.01.2007: Men's team loses top game again / Women's win |
During the eleventh game day of the regular season, our men's team had to face the team of Southside Péiteng, the leader of the National III Group A. Our team concentrated to limit the influence of the American player Chris McSwain which succeeded very well. In a very close game, none of both contractors allowed its opponent to march off with more than 5 points during the first three and a half quarters. 4 minutes before the end, Péiteng profited of a weak phase of our team, with a lot of uncontrolled offensives, to march off with 9 points. Our team did not have any more the necessary force to reduce the difference and finally loses 64 – 73.
Our ladies played against the team of Telstar Hesperange which stays on the last position of the schedule in the National II division. Our team had problems to enter the game because it did not have the necessary talent and luck in offence to set the difference during the first half. In the third quarter, our girls did a lot better and could finally make the crucial step. Telstar reacted but could only minimize the difference to 7 points before our ladies marched off during the last quarter. Finally, our girls won this one 64 – 46 and defended their first position in the National II division. |
| |
| x 06.01.2007: Women's team with effort but without chance |
| Our women's team lost its first official game for the year 2007, the 1/8 final of the "Coupe des Dames" against the DL team of Résidence Walferdange. Due to the league difference, our ladies started with a 10 points advance. The girls of Walferdange played aggressively right from the beginning and could tie the score already after 7 minutes playtime. Our inferiority, especially concerning the rebound, was used by Walferdange to run a lot of easy fast-breaks. Our girls exert themselves till the last minute, but had never a realistic chance to win this one. Final score: 54 - 106. |
| |
| x 17.12.2006: Men enter semi-final / Women win in Schieren |
Our men’s team won its game in the quarter final of the FLBB Cup 99 – 78 against the team of Les Espérants Wasserbillig. Against a weak defense, our team could set the difference right from the beginning and score 33 and 28 points in the two first quarters. After the break, our team reduced the intensity and limited itself to control the game till the end. Our team has now to face either Telstar Hesperange, Kayldall or Southside Péiteng in the semi-finals of this cup, which will be played on the weekend of 10th/11th February 2007.
Due to injuries and studies, our ladies showed up with just 7 players against the team of Black Frogs Schieren. After a tied first half, our team led with only 4 points. During the second half, our womens started to play an extremely aggressive defense which allowed only 4 points to the opponent during the second half. At the end, our team won its last game for the year 2006 in the National II 73 – 35. |
| |
| x 14.12.2006: Coupe des Dames: Women will play against Résidence |

| |
| x 10.12.2006: Women and men win in spite of weak performances |
Our women's team began its game with a weak presentation and constantly ran behind a 5 point lead from AS Soleuvre. At halftime, the guests led by one point. During the second half, our ladies had the better start and could march off with 8 points, Soleuvre could however fight back in the last quarter and take the lead, before our team could land the crucial advance 4 minutes before the end of the game. Final score 65 - 61.
The men's team began its game against the table-last team of Young Boys Hamm extremely sluggishly and listlessly. So one could achieve only 8 points in the 2nd quarter and could show just 32 counters at half time. Coach Wichote reacted after the break with a full court press and could bring back some life into the game. Our team could force a lot of turnovers of the opponent and achieve 42 points in the 3rd quarter. At the end, our team could win 113 - 50 in an extremely weak game, due to the first half. Stats

After a weak early stage, our team could find its play during the second quarter and set a 16 points advance at half-time. | |
| x 26.11.2006: Victory for men / Women take revange in Mondorf |
Our men's team came to a 61 - 92 away victory against US Limpertsberg. The foundation-stone for this success was set during the first 7 minutes of the game where our team could develop the necessary pressure to dominate the opponent. The first quarter ended 11 - 32. From the second quarter on, our team controlled the game, but could only slowly increase the difference because it allowed the opponent too many easy baskets.
Our women's team could take its revange against Avanti Mondorf. Led by a solid defense, our team could control this game right from the beginning. At the end, our team won 53 - 72. Because the first game was lost with a difference of 17 points, our team has now a positive score difference against Avanti Mondorf which could be important for the final table. |
| |
| x 24.11.2006: Coupe de Luxembourg: Men's team loses honorably |
| Our men's team lost its game in the 1/8 finals of the „Coupe de Luxembourg" 72 – 86 against the unbeaten leader of the National II Résidence Walferdange. After 11 min., the team of Walferdange managed to equalize the 10 points average of our team. Everyone, who had counted on a march off of Résidence, was informed of a better as the home team reared itself. After 18 min., the best player of the game, Ricard Norell, had to leave the court because of a cut under his left eye. But again, the home team did not give in and went on to make the game exciting up until the last quarter. During the last five minutes, our team put everything on a card as they tried to reduce the 6 points difference with a full court press. Résidence managed to react in the final minute setting the difference to 14 points. Walferdange wins deservingly, but not without a lot of effort against a fighting Gréngewald team. |
| |
| x 19.11.2006: Men with buzzer victory / Women surprise in Racing |
The ladies as well as the men could decide their 7th game for themselves, each in a breathtaking final phase.
On Friday night, our men’s team had problems to stop the shooters from BBC Kehlen what contributed to the fact that it was a very closed game over 40 minutes. When already each counted on overtime, Daniel Heyman threw a “Quarterback pass” which Marc Braun could use to decide the game with a layup at the buzzer. Final score: 72 - 70. Stats.
Our women started their game against Racing Luxembourg, the unbeaten leader in the National II, with a lot of missed easy shots, which allowed Racing to march off with big steps in the early stage. A technical foul on Coach Wichote brought the change, as the team returned more aggressivly and self-confidently during the 3rd quarter which allowed them to reduce the difference step by step. At the end, Jill Kremer equalized the score with 4 transformed free-throws in a row. Our team even missed the chance to decide the game with a last shot in the last second of the regular game time. In the subsequent overtime one appeared again very self-assuredly and knocked down Racing with 16 – 1. Final score: 59 - 74.

| |
| x 07.05.2006: Unhappy ending - Men's team relegated to N3 |
The men's team of BBC Grengewald missed his last chance to save a place in the National II divison for the upcoming season. With a 78 - 67 lost against Avanti Mondorf, the team has to step back to the National III divison after 3 consecutives seasons into National II.
The players around coach Dietmar Kuntz could not cause the expected and necessary game mood and fire which one needs for a victory in a "do or die" game. Avanti Mondorf remains the dreaded opponent, because one had already lost previously 4 times against this team during this season (1 cup game, 3 championship games). Special thanks to the many Grengewald Supporters which accompanied the team to Mondorf.
But should the team stay together and be strengthened by the soaring youth players, the farewell from National II will not probably last very long. This team will return, and probably stronger then ever before! |
